Help with a Federal Agency

If you need assistance with a federal agency, my constituent services team may be able to assist you. I can help you if your problem is with a federal agency – an organization that is part of the federal government.

Although Members of Congress cannot guarantee a particular outcome, my office will work to help you receive a fair and timely response to your problem.

My office cannot help if your problem does not involve a federal agency. Due to the Constitutional separation of powers, issues involving the courts, North Carolina state agencies, or local governments fall outside my jurisdiction as a United States Representative.

To start the casework process, the Privacy Act of 1974 (5 U.S.C. § 552a) requires us to have a signed Privacy Release Form before my staff can discuss your case with an agency.

We must have your signature to proceed with this type of request.

Please note: While a caseworker is available to obtain information regarding the status of a constituent's application or claim, this office has no authority to expedite a person's application ahead of others. Caseworkers can assist constituents by providing information about the process for applying for a government benefit or service. A Congressional office, however, cannot file the claim and does not have the authority to instruct a federal agency to approve or deny an application.

Passport guidance:https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/passports/get-fast.html

On average, the State Department requires 7 to 10 weeks for routine processing of passports and 3 to 5 weeks to process an expedited passport which costs an additional $60. If your passport will expire in the next six months, you should begin the renewal process as soon as possible before planning any travel out of the country.
