Washington, D.C. – Congresswoman Kathy Manning (NC-06) is pleased to congratulate Acting United States Attorney for the Middle District of North Carolina Sandra Hairston on her nomination to fill the position of United States Attorney from the Middle District of North Carolina for a four-year term. Congresswoman Manning wrote a letter of support to President Biden on behalf of Acting U.S. Attorney Hairston earlier this year.

Congresswoman Manning stated:

“I am pleased to congratulate Acting U.S. Attorney Sandra Hairston on her nomination to fill a four-year term as U.S. Attorney for the Middle District of North Carolina. Ms. Hairston is a dedicated public servant who has earned the respect of individuals from across our community. She is a trailblazer; after having served in the U.S. Attorney’s Office of the Middle District for twenty-five years, Ms. Hairston will be the first African American woman to lead the office as U.S. Attorney for the Middle District of North Carolina. I’m proud to recommend her for this role and to congratulate her on her nomination.”

When confirmed by the Senate, Hairston would be the first African American female to fill the role of United States Attorney for the Middle District. Hairston has served in the U.S. Attorney’s Office of the Middle District of North Carolina in Greensboro, North Carolina, since 1996, first as an Assistant US Attorney, then as Deputy Chief of the Criminal Division, and most recently as the Acting United States Attorney. She previously served in the United States Attorney’s Office in the Eastern District of North Carolina. She has extensive prosecutorial experience including more than 400 jury trials and work on more than 150 appeals court cases. She has experience in multi-defendant drug-trafficking cases throughout North Carolina and has received the Peter S. Gilchrist III Award from the North Carolina Bar Association, Criminal Justice Section, as a prosecutor who exemplifies the highest ideals of the profession.

President Biden also nominated Michael Easley and Dena King to serve as United States Attorneys for the Eastern and Western Districts of North Carolina, respectively.
