Manning Votes to Temporarily Extend the Debt Limit, Averting Republican-Led Economic Crisis

October 12, 2021

Washington, D.C.Congresswoman Kathy Manning (NC-06) released the following statement after voting to temporarily extend the debt limit until December 3, 2021.

“We cannot afford to play games with the full faith and credit of the United States government. Today, I voted to extend the debt limit to avert a Republican-led economic crisis.

“Extending the debt limit isn’t about future government spending; it’s about paying for our existing obligations. I ask my Republican colleagues who refused to vote for an extension of the debt limit today: if you don’t like paying for a nearly two trillion-dollar tax cut for the wealthy, why did you vote for it while President Trump was in office? It’s time we stop playing games with the economy and get back to working for the people.”
